MB encourages public to visit Sidek exhibition, learn of the brothers’ successes

SHAH ALAM, Feb 3 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has called on Selangor’s residents to visit the ‘Sons of Sidek’ exhibition, which is currently being held at the Sultan Alam Shah Museum.

He said the exhibition is also the best opportunity for everyone to explore the success of the five siblings who brought pride to the nation.

“The ‘Sons of Sidek’ exhibition, which runs for six months and began on November 1 last year, is an opportunity for us to deepen our understanding and personally see various collections of trophies, medals, pictures, and their belongings.

“Selangor’s residents can come with their families and introduce this history to the younger generation. Hopefully, it becomes an inspiration and strength for us all,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Amirudin added the successes of the brothers, who were raised in Banting, Kuala Langat should be remembered, especially when they successfully clinched the Thomas Cup in 1992.

“Moreover, Selangor is once again set to host the Badminton Asia Team Championships (BATC) 2024 from February 13 to February 18.

“This is a good opportunity for us to explore the success which brought glory to Malaysia,” he said.

The exhibition, which runs until April 30, narrates the achievements of the late Datuk Sidek Abdullah Kamar’s family, who managed to hone his children to become world-renowned badminton players.

Sidek trained Misbun, Razif, Jalani, Abdul Rahman, and Abdul Rashid in the badminton court at the family home in Kampung Kanchong Darat.

The exhibition features medals from the World Cup Badminton Championship, the Men Doubles Winner, the All England, the Commonwealth Games, the Asian Games, the SEA Games, and souvenirs presented to the five siblings.

As an additional attraction, there are also badminton shuttlecock guessing competitions, quizzes, colouring contests, and badminton clinics.
