MB: Plan to realise northern region rail line to be presented this year

KUALA SELANGOR, Feb 25 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said that all efforts will be focused on the state’s northern region to develop the Kita Selangor Rail Line.

He said discussions are being held with the Transport Ministry, and the overall plan for the construction of the train is expected to be presented this year.

“This term, I want to implement the Kita Selangor Rail Line to ensure that the public transport facility would connect to Kuala Selangor.

“I am holding discussions with the ministry so that those living in the areas can work in Kuala Lumpur with just a one-hour travel distance,” he said at the opening ceremony of the Madani Cheapest Sales programme at the Tanjung Karang Community Service Centre here, today.

Also present were state executive councillor for local government and tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim, Tanjung Karang MP Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi and of Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, chief executive officer Saipolyazan M Yusop.

Last year, during the tabling of the 2024 Selangor Budget, the state government announced the construction of a railway network that will start from Klang to Kuala Selangor, Tanjong Karang, and Sabak Bernam.

The infrastructure project will start with a feasibility study that will consider various aspects and an allocation of RM3 million.

Meanwhile, Amirudin said that Selangor became the first state to create a food supply reserve expected to last up to three months.

He said the state government allocated RM50 million to create food security involving the supply of food such as rice, chicken, meat and fish.

“The security of our food supply will start with crops by ensuring livestock products and the supply of livestock feed made from corn grain, which will reduce dependence on imports.

“We will also store food such as rice, chicken, meat and fish for the people of Selangor. If it succeeds, we will be able to hold out for up to three months in the event of a crisis.”

According to Amirudin, the state will build a special warehouse to house the food supply involved, and it will be sold via the Jualan Ehsan Rahmah programme to ensure its continuity.

“The more important issue is that the initiative will be paired with our food storage stocks. I will talk to the National Action Council on Cost of Living (Naccol) to ensure that the food stock is not wasted and is used up on time,” he said.
