MSSM bags eight golds, six silvers in 2024 WA State Track, Field Championships

PUTRAJAYA, Feb 27 — The Malaysian School Sports Council (MSSM) team topped the 2024 WA State Track and Field Championships in Perth, Australia, by winning eight gold medals and six silver medals.

The Education Ministry (MOE) said the national team was represented by 12 of the best student-athletes and three officials in the international competition, which was held from February 22 to February 25.

“MOE is always committed to developing students’ potential and talent in sports,” it said in a statement today.

Efforts were implemented through competitions at various levels, as well as high-impact sports programmes in five Malaysian Sports Schools (SSM), 15 State Sports Schools (SSN) and 612 district training centres (PLD) nationwide.

The national team bagged two golds via Muhammad Faheem Haziq Mohd Hasrul for the boys Under-15 3,000-metre event and Muhamad Thaqif Ukasyah Mohd Rady for the boys Under-14 high jump category.

Other golds were received by Randy Ryann Samson for the boys Under-16 long jump, Amirul Syakir Mohd Hanafi for the boys Under-15 100m, Wan Muhammad Hariz Wan Mohd Hafiz (boys Under-16 100m), Mohammad Syahzwan Willian (boys Under-15 shot put), Nurelfira Humaira Mohd Yusof (girls Under-14 80m hurdles), and Amirul Syakir Mohd Hanafi (boys Under-15 200m).

Randy also received one of the six silver medals for the team through the boy’s Under-16 long jump event.

Other silver medal recipients included Nurelfira Umaira for the girl’s Under-14 200m hurdles and Mohammad Syahzwan for the boy’s Under-15 discus events, respectively.
