SHAH ALAM, Feb 29 — The Selangor State Legislative Assembly has made several new appointments, including Opposition lawmakers, to replace the existing members of a number of its selection committees.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the appointment process was conducted after thorough deliberations and discussions with all parties.
“Moving forward, I will ensure that discussions on the select committees will include all parties, including party whips, to ensure no further issues and that we can proceed smoothly,” he said during today’s sitting.
In the previous state assembly meeting in November last year, the Opposition led by Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali staged a walkout after accusing the Speaker and state government of violating an earlier agreement pertaining to the appointments of select committee members.
Azmin, the Hulu Kelang assemblyman, claimed the composition of some of the committees did not reflect the high number of Opposition lawmakers in the House, arguing that all the committees should have at least three Perikatan Nasional members.
He also complained that some of the names proposed by the Opposition had been removed from the final list.
Today, all names proposed by Amirudin were agreed upon by assembly members without any objections. Their appointments will take immediate effect.
The newly appointed members are as follows:
1. Select Committee of District and Land Offices
Chua Wei Kiat (Rawang) replaces Lee Kee Hiong (Kuala Kubu Baru).
2. Standing Orders Committee
Muhammad Hilman Idham (Gombak Setia) replaces Kamri Kamaruddin (Bukit Antarabangsa).
3. Special Select Committee on Competency, Accountability, and Transparency
Dr. Afif Bahardin (Taman Medan) replaces Kamri Kamaruddin (Bukit Antarabangsa).
4. Special Select Committee on Climate Change, Welfare, Health and Education, Family, Religion and Women Development, and Well-Being
Razali Shari (Sungai Panjang) replaces Chua Wei Kiat (Rawang).
5. Special Select Committee on Water Management, Agriculture, Infrastructure, and Mobility
Nushi Mahfodz (Semenyih) replaces Razali Saari (Sungai Panjang).
