NGOs, industry players invited to ensure child safety campaign succeeds

SHAH ALAM, Feb 1 — The Selangor Safe Family Campaign (Kempen Keluarga Selamat Selangor) in will soon be implemented to increase awareness among parents and members of the public on child safety.

As such, state executive councillor for women development and social welfare Anfaal Saari welcomes the cooperation of various parties, especially non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and industry players, in making the campaign a success by developing a special app.

“In this situation, I think it would be very good to have smart intervention via technological innovation. We need start-up companies which can develop apps and devices.

“Devices that enable parents to monitor or receive alerts about the presence of children digitally and physically, like in vehicles or at care centres,” she said Anfaal Saari on Facebook today.

Anfaal added the collaboration also involves the Selangor National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) to carry out an awareness campaign on child digital safety, as they are exposed to dangers on the Internet and social media, like sexual grooming.

She cited the incident of a five-year-old girl who was found dead after being left in a car for about four hours in the parking area of a hospital yesterday.

“This case serves as a ‘red flag’ warning to us, especially to me as a legislator, as similar issues have repeatedly occurred.

“I would like to express my condolences to the child’s family. As a mother myself, I am deeply saddened to read this news,” Anfaal said.
