KLANG, Feb 3 — The second edition of the Selangor JobCare Carnival 2023, held since August last year, has helped over 1,200 individuals secure employment in various fields.

Opportunities were offered through eight tour series in the Gombak, Hulu Selangor, Hulu Langat, Kuala Selangor, Sabak Bernam, Petaling, Kuala Selangor, and Sepang districts, said the Selangor Workers’ Empowerment Unit’s (UPPS) chief coordinator S. Vijayan.

“Those who have found jobs include individuals at various levels, from general to executive positions like engineers. The total number is expected to increase with the final event today in Klang.

“This time, JobCare offers close to 4,000 job opportunities from 27 employers. In total, the carnival in the nine districts saw 189 employers participate, including Hartalega, Mah Sing Healthcare, Sports Direct, and 99 Speedmart,” he said.

Vijayan was speaking during the carnival’s closing ceremony at Dewan Hamzah in the Klang Municipal Council, officiated by Klang MP V. Ganabatirau.

The third edition of the Selangor JobCare Carnival will continue in June, following the encouraging responses from companies and the public.

Meanwhile, Ganabatirau said the state government’s initiative could stimulate the labour market and contribute to the state’s gross domestic product output.

“The programme also helps reduce the unemployment rate. In the first quarter of last year, the unemployment rate decreased to 3.4 per cent compared to the same period before, which was 3.5 per cent,” he said.

JobCare, launched in 2022, aims to assist low-skilled, moderate-skilled, and high-skilled individuals in finding employment after they lost their sources of income due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
