Selangor offers platform for production of successful businesses — MB

By Suhaila Shahrul Annuar

SHAH ALAM, Feb 1 — Selangor provides a strong entrepreneurial ecosystem through various development and empowerment programmes that has helped give birth to thousands of successful entrepreneurs to date.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government consistently looks to empower these entrepreneurs, realising the importance of a healthy business ecosystem.

Citing the Selangor State Development Corporation’s (PKNS) success in producing scores of entrepreneurs as an example, Amirudin said this is possible through the various development programmes provided by the state.

“For example, PKNS implements mentoring, training and education programmes for entrepreneurs, covering all aspects, including efforts to ignite public interest in entrepreneurship.

“This is because we realise that the field of entrepreneurship cannot be limited to just that; it requires support and encouragement to climb to higher levels,” he said when officiating the PKNS Entrepreneur Awards 2023 at the Shah Alam Convention Centre, here, last night.

In his speech, Amirudin said entrepreneurs need to be bold in expanding the reach of their products by exploring the foreign market.

“In Selangor, we offer various entrepreneur development programmes, like the Hijrah Selangor initiative. In fact, the Selangor Zakat Board also offers entrepreneurship programmes to help lift asnaf individuals out of poverty.

“Entrepreneurs need to be wise in seizing opportunities and leveraging available resources. The business landscape has evolved significantly. If previously it was limited to just the local market, it has now expanded globally, accessible at your fingertips through online platforms,” he said.

Amirudin said to date, Selangor has produced over 56,000 alumni who have participated in various entrepreneur development programmes organised by the state.

Earlier in the ceremony, 12 PKNS entrepreneurs and businesses received recognition and awards for their achievements and excellence in their respective fields.

PKNS also handed out appreciation awards to partner agencies, including the Malaysian External Trade Development Corporation, SME Corp, State Economic Planning Unit, Majlis Amanah Rakyat, and Agro Bank.
