Harapan strengthens, draws support from opposition lawmaker — Amirudin

SHAH ALAM, March 10 — Pakatan Harapan’s (Harapan) strong position has instilled confidence in all parties, including among the opposition, said Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Selangor Harapan chairman cited a most recent development, where a state assemblyman from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) expressed support for his leadership as the Menteri Besar, reflecting the ruling government’s strength.

“On the second day of the (2023 state election) campaign, I stated that we were confident of capturing 33 seats and ended up with 34. Now, with the latest support, we will see the number rising to 35.

“Although there are some issues that we need to address and overcome, and there are ups and downs in terms of political sentiment, we (still) accept the trust given,” he said at the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (Keadilan) Information Convention, here yesterday.

Amirudin, who is also the Keadilan vice president, said over the past three years, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has gained more approval as the highest-rated prime minister compared to Tan Sri Muhyidddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“In 2021, in terms of trust, Muhyidddin received less than 50 per cent, and after Umno withdrew its support, it immediately plummeted.

“Ismail, on the other hand, governed for 14 months, and after three months, was fined RM10,000 for violating movement control orders and never even received 50 per cent support of the people.

“Despite them saying PMX (Anwar) is unstable, Anwar now has the support and support of more than 50 per cent of the people, higher than in the past three years,” Amirudin added.

On Wednesday, Selat Klang state representative Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari declared his support for Amirudin’s leadership following the royal address of Sultan Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, who praised the Amirudin’s administration for being on the right track for the progress and well-being of the people.

The former Selangor Bersatu chairman also said his support, which was voluntary, was taken in view of several Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) actions, especially Selangor PN, for remaining silent against criticisms directed at the Malay rulers, which he deemed contrary to the principles of Malay Muslims.
