SHAH ALAM, March 30 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) contributed furniture, shopping vouchers worth RM300 each, and festive cookies to 11 selected families for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.
Mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon said the donations aim to ease the recipients’ burdens as the festive period draws near via this year’s Jalinan Kasih Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle (3R PJ Kita) programme.
“We took the initiative to obtain furniture which has been refurbished by the council’s Solid Waste Management and Public Cleaning Department at the PJ Eco Recycling Plaza.
“The average estimated value of the refurbished furniture and household items is around RM2,000 to RM3,000 each,” he said.
Zahri also announced the rebranding MBPJ’s used cooking oil ‘drop off’ programme, which buys the oil at RM2.50 per kg.
“The programme will be held bi-monthly at selected locations, and Petaling Jaya residents can also drop off used cooking oil at the PJ Eco Recycling Plaza.
“MBPJ hopes that with these efforts, residents will be educated to protect the environment not only through proper waste disposal but also by separating waste types, thus continuing to save our planet,” he said.
