Selat Klang’s Rashid declares support for Amirudin

SHAH ALAM, March 6 — Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia‘s Selat Klang state assemblyman Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari has publicly declared his support for the Selangor administration under the leadership of Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Opposition lawmaker cited Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders’ silence over the recent alleged display of insolence by PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang towards the Malay Rulers as among the reasons behind his decision.

“This decision was made voluntarily, without any coercion. It was after I carefully examined the Sultan of Selangor’s speech, which praised the administration of the Selangor government for its commitment to the state’s progress and the people’s well-being.

“This is also in response to the actions of PN, particularly the state chapter, that chose to remain silent against accusations directed at the Malay Rulers. This goes against Malay-Muslim principles,” he said in a statement today.

Rashid added that he also made this decision to ensure the well-being of his constituents in Selat Klang, who will benefit from a stable and strong government.

Previously, Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj issued a stern rebuke against Hadi via a letter on February 27, after the PAS leader’s comments towards the Malay Rulers following the recent Federal Court decision declaring several Kelantan Syariah laws unconstitutional was perceived as disrespectful.

His Royal Highness deemed Hadi’s statement as extremely inappropriate and uncivilised, as it had disrespected and insulted the royals.

Sultan Sharafuddin also cautioned Hadi to be more mindful in the future when issuing statements which could sow discord among Muslims in the country.

Hadi, in a social media post on February 20, had reminded the Malay Rulers, MPs, state assemblymen, judges, and lawyers not to be too engulfed in worldly interests but to also focus on the afterlife after the Apex Court’s decision on the Kelantan Syariah law, among others.
