SMUE assistance redeemable via e-vouchers starting next month

SHAH ALAM, March 6 — Redeeming the Skim Mesra Usia Emas (SMUE) assistance initiative can be made via e-vouchers on a special app starting in April, said state executive councillor for social welfare Anfaal Saari.

She said this is to facilitate recipients in obtaining their entitlements compared to the old method, which required them to physically come to their respective state assemblyman or state constituency coordinators’ office.

“The state government is now in the process of aligning with digitalisation. Starting in April, we will commence the registration and verification process, while redemption will be done via e-vouchers.

“The redemption can only be carried out by authorised recipients,” she said during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly session today in response to Bukit Gasing state assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran’s query.

Anfaal added they would also request Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (Yawas) expedite the voucher distribution to aid recipients in state constituencies held by the Opposition.

“Coordinators manage the voucher distribution in Opposition areas, but where it has not been completed, I will request Yawas to expedite sending out personnel or request the state constituencies to deliver the aid,” she said.

The 2024 Selangor Budget tabled on November 10 last year allocated RM16.48 million to continue the Jom Shopping Perayaan programme, with each recipient receiving RM200 to purchase essential items.
