Support from Bersatu rep further strengthens state govt, says MB

SHAH ALAM, March 18 — Selat Klang state assemblyman Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari’s support towards the state Unity Government would further strengthen the administration, said Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said the endorsement from Rashid, who is from Parti Pribumi Bersatu (Bersatu), has also encouraged other grassroots leaders to show their support for the state administration.

“This is his choice. I believe he is aware of the repercussions, particularly after the amendment to the constitution of Bersatu. The move may also stem from internal issues,” said Amirudin to the press after a breaking-fast event with 1,500 educators in the state at Dewan Raja Muda Musa, Kompleks Belia dan Kebudayaan Selangor, here last night.

On March 6, Abdul Rashid voiced his support for Amirudin’s leadership, purportedly following Perikatan Nasional’s inaction in response to allegations against the Malay Rulers.

Stressing that his decision is voluntary, the former Bersatu Selangor chairman said in a statement that the coalition’s stance also contradicted the principles of Malay-Muslims in defending the sovereignty of the Malay Rulers.

Rashid also explained that the decision took into account praises from Sultan Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj on Amirudin’s administration, citing its direction towards progress and the welfare of the people.
