SHAH ALAM, April 4 — The Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election will be held on May 11 (Saturday), with nomination day on April 27 (Saturday), the Election Commission (EC) announced today.

EC chairman Tan Sri Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh said early voting is on May 7 (Tuesday).

“The campaign period has been fixed for 14 days, starting after the candidates’ announcement on April 27, until 11.59pm on May 10, 2024 (Friday),” he said.

The Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election would be the first by-election held since the last 15th Selangor State Election held on August 12, 2023.

According to the data released by the commission, there are 40,226 voters who are eligible to cast their ballot in the state constituency.

The figure includes 39,362 regular voters, while the others are soldiers and their spouses (238), police personnel and their spouses (625), and overseas voter (1).

Abdul Ghani said the commission estimated the by-election to cost RM2.5 million.

He also said one election officer would be appointed to handle the election process, aided by three assistant managers, and the nomination and official vote-tallying centres would be opened at Dewan Serbaguna dan Komplek Sukan Daerah Hulu Selangor.

The voters will be casting their votes at 20 voting centres. The EC will station 760 election workers for the election process.

From April 22, voters can get more information on their polling centres and stations, as well as their serial numbers, via mysprsemak.spr.gov.my or contact the EC Hotline at 03-8892 7218 or browse the MySPR Semak application.

The Kuala Kubu Baharu seat fell vacant following the death of its incumbent, Lee Kee Hiong, who passed away on March 21 after battling cancer for several years.

Lee, 58, held the seat for three terms from 2013, won the Kuala Kubu Bharu seat with 14,862 votes in the recent state polls, beating Perikatan Nasional’s Teoh Kien Hong (10,743), Malaysian United Democratic Alliance’s (Muda) Dr R. Siva Prakash (1,186), and Parti Rakyat Malaysia’s (PRM) Chng Boon Lai (527).
