SHAH ALAM, April 6 — The Selangor Women’s Welfare and Charity Organisation (Pekawanis) has allocated RM185,000 for Hari Raya Aidilfitri contributions to 1,000 single mothers and asnaf (tithe recipients) in the state.

Its president Datin Seri Masdiana Muhamad said the amount included RM150 duit raya to selected individuals from all 52 state constituencies in Selangor.

“The programme is still ongoing and will be held in all 52 constituencies,” she said, adding that the aid is meant to alleviate the burden of the low-income group in celebrating Aidilfitri.

Masdiana said this in her speech at the Pekawanis 3.0 Ramadan Ihya’ and Khatam al-Quran Perdana ceremony at Dewan Megawati at the Menteri Besar’s official residence, here, today.

Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin was also present to grace the event. Her arrival was greeted by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari and Masdiana.

The Selangor Queen Consort also presented certificates of Quran completion to participants.

Masdiana said today’s Quranic recitation and khatam (completion) is part of Pekawanis’ seven programmes conducted throughout the month of Ramadan.

Other programmes included daily iftar and tarawih prayers at Dewan Megawati until the eve of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

“We also organised the Bubur Lambuk Pekawanis 4.0 programme in 40 constituencies, as well as collaborate with Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) on a tour to distribute 7,000 bubur lambuk on March 23.”

Earlier in her speech, Masdiana said today’s event is particularly meaningful due to the presence of Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin.

She also urged Muslims to engage in more acts of worship during Ramadan, particularly the recital of the Quran, as a remedy for the heart and soul.

It is estimated around 500 attendees were present at the event, comprising Pekawanis members and congregants from several districts in Selangor.
