Selangor Saring: High cholesterol levels were discovered in many young adults

KUALA SELANGOR, June 12 — The majority of the Selangor Saring participants ranging from 25 to 40 years old were found to have high cholesterol levels.

Selangor Public Health Advisory Council committee member Dr Mohammad Farhan Rusli said the situation is worrying despite the fact they have a normal Body Mass Index (BMI) and are physically fit.

“This is based on the results of screening tests conducted in a number of constituencies. High cholesterol levels were discovered in the active and fit young people.

“We were able to deduce why it is important to have a health screening based on the test results. It is preferable to have a full screening after the blood test so that any potential health risks can be identified,” he told SelangorKini when met during the Selangor Saring initiative at Dewan Orang Ramai Kampung Seri Tiram, here today.

Dr Mohammad Farhan also urged the public, regardless of age, to take advantage of the state government’s initiative to check their health status.

“We encouraged everyone to participate in the program, including those who appeared to be in good health.” Should they be diagnosed with any disease, we want them to be treated immediately and before the condition gets worse,” he said.

The state government has allocated RM3.4 million for Selangor Saring and the initiative is expected to benefit up to 39,000 people, particularly those with a family history of illnesses, overweight individuals, or those leading unhealthy lifestyles.

The programme, which runs until September 4 across the state, includes physical screenings, blood and urine tests, eye exams, and cancer early detection tests.
