Exco: Do not ignore emotional stress, talk to experts

By Sheeda Fathil

SHAH ALAM, Aug 13 — People who are struggling with stress, anxiety or depression are advised to convey their issues to trained counsellors by calling the Sehat hotline.

State executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud stated that it is feared that unwanted actions may result if the issue is not addressed.

“People with this condition usually feel too heavy to share, prefer to be by themselves, and even hope that the symptoms will go away on their own.

“This mindset, however, is extremely risky and would only eat you up. Do not take it for granted. Discuss your emotions with a trained counsellor,” she said on a Facebook post.

The 24-hour hotline is available to the general public if they want to voice their worries at 1700-82-7536 or 1700-82-7537.

The Sehat hotline was formed in early June of last year, which is run by experienced counsellors who are available to listen to concerns and help by offering solutions.

In addition, a button on the SELangkah application’s home screen provides access to it. Psychoeducational videos, risk assessments, the WhatsDoc portal, and a mental health literacy scale are some of the user-explorable features.

The programme enables users to determine their state of mental health through self-preliminary assessments using the “risk check” and “stress scale”.
