Sukma 2022: Selangor sweep mixed pairs gold in lawn bowls

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 21 — Selangor swept the mixed pairs gold medal in the 20th Malaysia Games (Sukma) lawn bowls competition after beating Perak 15-8 at the Bukit Kiara Sports Complex, here yesterday.

Selangor’s mixed doubles pair Muhammad Haiqal Azami and Nurshafila Omar who made a slow start and trailed 2-5 to Perak pair Muhammad Atiq Imran Aminuddin and Noor Shuhaiza Nadia Ghazali after five ends, bounced back in the seventh end to take a 10-7 lead.

Thereafter, there was no turning back for the Selangor, who raced to a 15-8 lead to clinch the gold.

“Thank God, our efforts paid off well although I am partnering Nurshafila in the mixed pairs event for the first time. However, celebrations have to be put on hold because I have another important event tomorrow, namely the fours event.

“Our target for the event is the gold medal,” Muhammad Haiqal told reporters after the match, here yesterday.

In the battle for bronze, Johor’s Muhammad Fikri Mohamed Hashim and Fatin Nurrawiah Shamsudin convincingly beat Terengganu pair Muhammad Zulfadli Mohamad and Noor Farah Fazliena Alimi 14-7.
