SHAH ALAM, July 4 — The Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas) inspected Empangan Sungai Tinggi and the Sungai Labu riverbank water retention project, to ensure both structures remains intact.

It was carried out in collaboration with the Water Infrastructure Security Monitoring Section of the Water Supply Division, under the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change.

In a statement on Facebook, Luas said the inspection covered the structures, hydrology, instrumentation, documentation, geology, and the surrounding area of the reservoirs, as well as mechanical and electrical safety.

“This safety inspection will help improve the condition and structure of the reservoirs to ensure they are in good condition,” it said.

The Department of Irrigation and Drainage and Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd also took part in the inspection process.

Luas has gazetted 20 ponds, including lakes, former mines, and seven reservoirs, in the state, designating them as protected zones under Section 48 of the Luas Enactment 1999.

The gazetted ponds and reservoirs must be maintained and preserved from any disturbances, to ensure the quality and quantity of additional water resources in the state.
