Federal agencies monitoring Selangor Halal Hub, no longer under State Government

BY: ERMIZI MUHAMAD
SHAH ALAM, SEP 14: The Selangor Halal Hub is no longer under the State Government’s purview, said Investment, Small & Medium Industries, Trade and Transport Exco Dato’ Teng Chang Khim.
According to him, it is now supervised by Federal Government’s agencies and private companies.
“The site was previously operated by a State-owned company but has now been sold to domestic and foreign investors.
“So it is now up to that company to plan how to utilise the land that they have bought.
“For the record, parts of the land was purchased by Federal Government agencies such as FELDA that do not yet have any development plans for the site,” he said to SelangorKini.

He was commenting on a media report that claimed that the Selangor Halal Hub, launched by the State Government over a decade ago, has been sidelined.
The report further claimed that the State Government seems to be washing its hands off the matter although it had been discussed in the 2016 State Budget.
Teng said the report was made on purpose to tarnish the image of the State Government’s administration.
“That media did not understand the issue and made wild accusations. Whereas the State had prepared the best facility on the industrial site making it sellable and everything is now sold.
“Up to now, several private companies have built factories on the site, which have also seen productions made,” he said.
The Selangor Halal Hub was developed during the Barisan Nasional era in 2003, an idea by former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
As of today, there are 28 companies that have invested and developed factory operations on that site with an estimated target investment of RM15 million.
