RM 11 million for Aur River Flood Mitigation Project Phase 5

BY LIZAWATI MADFA
SHAH ALAM, NOV 2: In the 11th Malaysia Plan (RMK11), a total of RM11 million had been allocated to the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) for the Aur River Mitigation Flood Project Phase 5.
Infrastructure, Public Amenities, Agricultural Modernisation and Agro-Based Industries Exco Zaidy Abdul Talib said that it is to overcome flood problems at the Aur River retention area, such as Bandar Puteri and Taman Sentosa.
He said that the project provides major water drainage infrastructure to control floodwaters in surrounding areas.
“The current main drainage system is insufficient and causes overflow in the water drainage system, including in the existing pond built by developers.
“The retention pond built by developers is unsustainable since the pond pipeline is linked to the main drainage system, which has not been upgraded until the Aur River, thus causing floodwaters to overflow.
He was answering a question presented by Sri Muda Assemblyman Shuhaimi Shafie on the Bandar Puteri flood complaint, although a retention pond had already been built in Bandar Botanik.
Zaidy said that the diameter of the Bandar Botanik retention pond is 54,784 square metres, with a capacity of 164,352 cubic metres.
He also said that upon completion, it has an average depth of 3 metres, based on the recommended design and pre-plan count.
“The pond seems shallow as water level, which is controlled by the pond outlet, remains at 1 metre.
“Therefore, it can only accommodate floodwaters that flow into the flood retention pond to a height of 2 metres only,” he said.
