MB guarantees water supply restored soon

BY: NORHAYATI UMOR
SHAH ALAM, DEC 19: The State Government guarantees that water disruption in several areas, starting on December 19, will be restored before Christmas on December 25.
Dato’ Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said a special meeting involving Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and Air Selangor will be held to address the issue.
He said the issue was caused by TNB’s maintenance work at the Bukit Badong Substation in Kuala Selangor, which is beyond the State Government’s jurisdiction.
“We understand TNB’s job as there are technical issues that need to be resolved. Therefore, we will hold a meeting to discuss how best to address this issue immediately.
“We want to ensure the work does not burden the rakyat, particularly with the school holidays and Christmas season,” he said after officiating the Program Pengangkutan Awam Sekali Seminggu at the Bangunan SUK.
Mohamed Azmin said he did not expect the maintenance process to cause water disruption for six days according to the initial report he received.

However, he said the State Government has ordered the period to be shortened as soon as the maintenance work is completed.
“TNB has their own reasons why the maintenance work was postponed, as it was due to the examination period as well as the Langat 2 plant construction.
“But now it cannot be delayed any longer as the process will take longer and can take up to a month if no action is taken,” he said.
At the same time, he said the generator at the water treatment plant cannot meet the demand due to its capacity of merely 1000 million litre a day (MLD).
Approximately 3.89 million consumers in Lembah Klang started to experience disruption in water supply due to TNB maintenance work.
It affects 707,759 accounts in 814 areas in Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Gombak, Kuala Langat, Hulu Selangor, Kuala Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.
The National Water Service Commission (SPAN) had earlier informed regarding the TNB maintenance work and downtime for 16 hours beginning 8 am this morning.
