We own FELDA together

BY: MAZLAN ALIMAN
The National Felda Settlers’ Children Association (ANAK) calls on all parties to be concern and sensitive over the critical situation that FELDA is facing now.
Recognising the existing crisis, many efforts are made, be it conventions, seminars, dialogues and others, to save the institution which is the nation’s pride. The organisation of such events is not something new.
For example, the Felda’s Direction Convention organised by Save Felda Movement was held in April 12, 2012, in UNISEL Shah Alam. There was no issue about it.
Hence, Felda Director-General, Datuk Hanapi Suhada’s statement, that other parties are not allowed to use the FELDA name on grounds that it could be misleading, is baseless.
Since when is FELDA solely owned by them?
The government and FELDA should be grateful for any events organised for it, for example; the FELDA Members’ Convention this March 19, involving professionals, law practitioners, economists, activists, settlers and others.  Formulation and resolutions will be made for the future of Felda.
If this is a proactive step taken by Pakatan Harapan as an offer to Felda members, then this is what we are waiting for!
Raising the issue of using the word FELDA is so petty, it is an attempt to divert the attention from the real issue which is becoming the hot topic now.
FGV’s volatile position, Felda laden with problems, settlers’ bad fates, abandoned New Generation houses and depleting cash reserve are among the depravity that cannot be hidden anymore.
From earlier on, ANAK welcomes the appointment of Tan Sri Shahrir Samad as the new Felda Chairman. We have been waiting for one month for a response to our letter to meet him. There should be openness for our mutual benefit.
ANAK would like to stress that FELDA is ours, together. All effort to restore Felda to its original purpose should be welcomed. This is a struggle in line with the demand in our Religion.
ANAK would like to congratulate Pakatan Harapan’s eagerness and express our gratitude to the Selangor State Government who helps to ensure the convention achieve its goals.
