Masks for those shy to take hospital tests

BANGKOK, MAY 18: The creative campaign by a hospital in Kamphaeng Phet district called the ‘the mask pap smear’ successfully attracted many women to attend and undergo the pap-smear test.
The Mayor for Sakaeo Tambon administration, Suwan Supakitcharoen said, the initiative to give the special face mask is to attract those who are embarrass to attend the do the test to detect cervix and breast cancer.
According to him, the number of woman who are willing to do the tests for both types of cancer is very low each year, with 8 to 9 percent of them women from ages 30 to 70 are embarrass to expose their private parts to medical officers.
“To overcome that problem, Suwan said the local government and Tambon Nong Klod hospital, with the financial support from Health Insurance Fund have introduced the mask for the women to hide their faces from the medical officers and to make them feel more confident,” he said as quoted by  Thaipbs.
Meanwhile, a woman who participated in the campaign, Wanpen Sapcharoen, 50 said she felt more confident to take the tests after wearing the mask.
