More artworks by local artists from journey abroad

SHAH ALAM, MAY 18: The Shah Alam Gallery (SAG) will organise more paintings and arts exhibition through its journey abroad art programme for art activists and enthusiasts in Selangor.
The Selangor Arts Foundation Board of Trustees Member, Prof Dato’ Zahabuddin Raja Yaacob said this is due to the success of the Lakar Sa Pa exhibition in the gallery, from April 27 to this July 14, which brings together nine famous artists in Malaysia.
He said, nine artists were selected, to join the Hanoi and Sa Pa Inter-Nation Journey of Arts, from September 14 to 19 last year, and each of them have to produce their own artworks from that journey experience, for this exhibition.

“This is the first time we are doing this, bringing our artists abroad to produce their work. We will continue this initiative in the future by looking at other interesting locations in other countries as well.
“This has also been agreed His Royal Highness the Selangor Sultan, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah as the Gallery Chairman who has asked for this programme to be continued to upgrade the art status in Selangor,” he said after the Lakar Sa Pa exhibition launching ceremony.
The exhibition was launched by culturalist, Tan Sri Kamarul Ariffin Mohamed Yassinn who described the exhibition as providing opportunities to art activists and enthusiasts to share ideas besides creating an attraction for tourists to visit Selangor.
“The State Government and the SAG will always give the opportunity for relevant parties to hold exhibitions and activities like this to raise the standard of art in Selangor and the country,” he said.
Lakar Sa Pa is an exhibition that put together paintings and artworks produced by nine artists from various genre based on their experience exploring the high lands in northern Vietnam which is Sa Pa.
The artists are Zaim Durulaman, Azman Md Nor, Abdullah Jones, Rohaizad Shaari, Abd Rasid Yusof, Zaharin Mohammad, Abdullah Hamdan, Khairuklsani Ismail and Raja Zahabuddin himself.
