PETALING JAYA: Umno Sungai Kandis by-election candidate Lokman Noor Adam has forgotten how PKR took care of him back in 1998.

PKR vice-president Xavier Jayakumar wants the Umno Supreme Council member to recall who helped him and his family when he was detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA).

“I have known him since 1998, even before the Reformasi days, when he was with us.”

“He has forgotten who helped him when he was in deep trouble in 1998, when he was caught under ISA and how we took care of him,” said the PKR veteran.

Speaking in a press conference in Putrajaya, Xavier who is also the Water, Land and Natural Resources Minister also condemns the ‘tactics’ used by Lokman throughout the Sungai Kandis by-election campaign.

Referring to Lokman’s recent Facebook posting where he had questioned why an ‘LGBT’ dance was performed at a supposed fundraiser for Tabung Harapan, Jayakumar said that Umno has ran out of ideas on how to win voters.

“It shows clearly that Umno has lost in terms of issues to put forward. They are instead playing with issues of race, religion and now LGBT,” he said.

PKR candidate Zawawi Ahmad Mughni earlier in a short video clip has strongly denied supporting such programs, adding that people should stop trying to take advantage of such cases by turning them into slander for the sake of political mileage.

Lokman is set to face Zawawi and independent candidate K Murthi on August 4, next week.

The Sungai Kandis by-election was called following the death of Shuhaimi Shafiei on July 2 due to lymphoma.
