KUALA LUMPUR: Putrajaya is seeking to review and reduce the funding allocated for certain “wasteful” government agencies.

Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali said this is required as an attempt to empower the Bumiputera Economic Agenda.

“This is a form of wastage that we have to review.

“In the past, when we had an initiative or idea, we would create an agency to execute the policy.

“When there are 10 ideas we want to implement, we will have 10 agencies on that,” he said during a talk show on RTM last night.

Azmin who previously served in Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s first administration in the 1990s said he had first notice such practice then.

He said putting an end to these habits is vital, so that government funds would truly reach the people, instead of being filtered out by these agencies.

“Our funds may not reach the targeted groups because the money will be used on renovating offices or giving out allowances to officers. Such a practice has to stop,” said Azmin.

Azmin during the talk also confirmed that Mahathir would be making an appearance during the Bumiputera and National Future Congress 2018 (KBN 2018), this Saturday.

The congress aims to help the government draft new policies, create stratergic collablration opportunities as well as identify new and penetrable development fields for Bumiputera entrepreneurs.

Azmin said this is part of the Pakatan Harapan government’s effort to empower the economic agenda of the Bumiputera.
