Landfill Owners to Face Legal Action

AUGUST – Owners of illegal waste land near Sungai Long toll plaza that had caused a fire will face lawsuits under the Environment, Land and District Office and Local Authorities (UN) Act with a total sum of RM 1 million.

EXCO of Environment, Green Technology, Consumer Affairs, Science, Technology and Innovation, Hee Loy Sian said the legal action was taken due to the irresponsible attitude of the landowner who allowed the area to remain a waste dumping site despite being warned before.

“This waste disposal site has been in operation for the last 18 months. The landlord has also been summoned often but has yet to show up. In fact, the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKJ) has also seized and charged a compound of 18 trucks that went in and out of the illegal dumping site,” he said.

“Accordingly, the state government need to resolve this issue and eight identified landowners will be sued from the Department of Environment (DOE) (RM 500,000), Land and District Office (RM 250,000) and Local Authority (RM 25,000), ” he said.

Loy Sian said this at a press conference after reviewing firefighting operations in the area.

Also present was EXCO of Local Government, Public Transport and New Village Development, Ng Sze Han.
