Dengue cases reach new record high

SHAH ALAM, Dec 5 — The number of dengue cases has reached a new record high this year with a total of 120,871 cases recorded as of Wednesday (December 4).

This brings to an average of 331 new cases reported on a daily basis.

According to the iDengue website, which is run by the Health Ministry in collaboration with the National Space Agency, the previous high recorded number of dengue cases was in 2015, with 120,836 cases.

The website noted that there have been 164 dengue-related deaths this year up to November 30.

However, 2015 had also recorded the highest number of fatalities with a total of 336 cases recorded.

The website also stated that out of 116 hotspots identified, 102 of the areas listed are located in Selangor.

The hotspots are determined by areas that have prolonged reported dengue cases of over 30 days.

The iDengue website provides other information on dengue including hot spots, preventive measures as well as contact numbers of operation rooms in every state.
