SHAH ALAM, March 3 — There had not been any objection by shop owners on the collection of plastic bag charge imposed by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), said its mayor.
Datuk Mohd Sayuthi Bakar said as of now, up to 40 large-scale businesses have registered under MPSJ for collection of the fee on plastic bag through local authorities.
“MBPJ would make the collection from shop operators on a quarterly basis,” he said after attending MBPJ’s meeting on February 27.
The Selangor government had approved the collection of plastic bag charge through local authorities beginning January 1, this year.
The funds would be channelled to the state Trust Fund and would be used for environmental programmes.
