MB: Large-scale Covid-19 screening in several locations starting Friday

By Zareef Muzammil

SHAH ALAM, April 8 — The Selangor Task Force for Covid-19 (STFC) will facilitate a large-scale Covid-19 screening at several identified locations beginning Friday (April 10), says the Selangor Menteri Besar.

Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the state anticipates between 1,000 to 1,200 checks to conducted as the cases in the state continue to climb in number.

“Our strategy is to do as many screenings as we can in locations that have been identified by the Selangor State Health Department, including some other areas that are to be finalised.

“The more tests we do, the more it will increase our chances in identifying more positive cases to ensure that the chain of infection is broken,” he said after overseeing the aid delivery convoy by the Selangor Federation of Peninsular Malay Students (GPMS) here today.

Amirudin said the task force had also helped the Health Ministry in the battle against the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The task force has laid out several guidelines for business premises to follow during the movement control order (MCO) period.

“The criteria has to be met to reduce the risk of infection at the premises,” he said.

Meanwhile, in an interview with Bernama Radio earlier today, Amirudin said the chain of Covid-19 infection has yet to be broken as there are still cases that are unidentified.

He said cases that are not immediately reported would make it difficult for the virus to be contained.

“Although we see that the number is increasing, we are still able to control it but if there are cases that go unreported, then the outcome would be bad,” said Amirudin, adding that the rise in cases was also contributed by the Malaysians who have returned from abroad and are placed in quarantine centres in the state.

As of noon today, Selangor had registered a total 1,078 positive Covid-19 cases out of the total 4,119.
