Upgrading works of Sungai Selangor water treatment plant 72 pct complete

SHAH ALAM, July 14 — The upgrading works of the Sungai Selangor Phase 3 (SSP3) water treatment plant (LRA) is now 72 per cent complete as of 4.30pm today, compared to the initial target of 53 per cent completion.

Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) operations head Abas Abdullah said the duration of the replacement of several main valves in the network, which had caused the closure of the treatment plant, is expected to resolve within 24 hours.

He said the closure resulted in the reduced production of treated water by up to 472 million litres a day compared to the usual capacity of 800 million litres a day.

“A total of 93 water tankers have been mobilised to 82 critical premises in the affected areas, such as hospitals and dialysis centres.

“We have also placed 82 water tanks at schools to prepare for the reopening of schools on July 15. This is to ensure that the daily activities can proceed as usual,” said Abis in a statement today.

A total of 420,000 account holders in 290 areas in Petaling, Klang, Gombak, Kuala Lumpur and Kuala Langat are expected to experience scheduled water supply disruption from July 14 to 17 due to upgrading works at the SSP3 LRA.
