Batu Sapi by-election cancelled — EC

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18 — The parliamentary by-election for Batu Sapi will not go on following the proclamation of emergency by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah in the parliamentary constituency.

Election Commission (EC) chairman, Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh said following the declaration of emergency, another date would be set for the by-election.

“EC acknowledges the statement of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on the proclamation of emergency under Clause 1 of Article 150 of the Federal Constitution.

“It is to enable an ordinance promulgated under Clause (2B) Article 150 to cancel the date set for the by-election after it has been consented by the King,” he said in a statement today.
