Second edition of e-Malaysia Cup 2020 set to kick off on Sunday

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 19 — The Malaysian Football League (MFL) has taken the initiative to ease the frustration of Malaysian football fans by announcing the second edition of the e-Malaysia Cup 2020 tournament.

The MFL, in a statement released today, said this was also due to the overwhelming response of the eMFL’s first edition, which was held from July 1 to 10.

“Following the cancellation of the Malaysia Cup this season due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the MFL takes this opportunity to cure the frustration of local football fans by organising this e-sports tournament online,” it said.

MFL said that this edition of the tournament would be more interesting as it would feature a new format of match-making.

“A total of 256 amateur players will compete in the knockout matches to vie for the top eight slots. They will then face off with another eight players from our previous edition of the tournament in the final round for the e-Malaysia Cup 2020 champion title.

“All 16 players will be given the honour of representing the 16 teams who played in the Malaysia Cup 2020, namely Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), Kedah, Terengganu FC, Perak, Selangor, UiTM FC, PJ City FC, Pahang, Melaka, Sabah, Felda United FC, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Kuching FA, Kelantan and Kelantan United FC,” it said.

“With the support from FIFA video game publisher EA Sports for this tournament, it wouldn’t be a surprise for amateur players in the country to make a name for themselves and further explore their career in the e-Sports arena,” it said.

The e-Malaysia Cup 2020 will kick off with its qualifiers on November 22, followed by its final round from December 1-4. The champion will win prizes worth RM 5,000.

All matches will be broadcast live on the MFL’s Facebook page beginning at 7.45pm daily.

Members of the public and e-sports players who wish to know more and participate in the tournament can do so online at https://bit.ly/ePM20Reg.
