KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 27 — The government would implement the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) at the Transit Detention Centre (PTP) of the Marang Prison as well as the Dungun Correctional Centre and its staff quarters from tomorrow until February 10.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the Health Ministry (MOH) today reported a sudden increase in the number of positive Covid-19 cases in both locations.

He said the implementation of EMCO at Marang Prison PTP would involve the block housing prison officers training centre, Zone 2 and Zone 3.

“As of January 26, MOH has carried out 1,262 tests with 98 testing positive for Covid-19,” he said in a statement.

As of yesterday, he said 1,102 screenings were carried out at the correctional centre with 99 of them positive for the virus, involving 92 detainees, two staff and five close contacts.

Ismail Sabri said the standard operating procedures (SOP) would be implemented, including no movement in and out of the localities as well as no visit allowed.

Meanwhile, he said 506 individuals were arrested yesterday with 473 of them were given compound notices and another 33 were remanded for breaching the SOP.

On Op Benteng, he said 19 illegal immigrants were arrested and four land vehicles were seized.
