Targeted Covid-19 screenings in Petaling to prevent a fourth wave

By Khairul Azran Hussin

KLANG, April 21 — The Selangor government will be conducting targeted community Covid-19 screenings in Petaling following the closure of several schools in the district.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the initiative is to detect the coronavirus within the community and to prevent the fourth wave of infections.

“During the meeting with the National Security Council (NSC) on Sunday, we had agreed to hold targeted screenings in high-risk areas to break the chain of infection.

“We hope that the move would help the health department in tracing the virus early on so that they can isolate the cases immediately as we do not want a fourth or fifth wave to happen,” Amirudin told reporters when met after presenting the funds to the mosques in Klang at the Al-Ansar Mosque, Kapar, in conjunction with the Jelajah Ramadan Kita Selangor programme, here yesterday.

On Sunday, 19 schools in Selangor were ordered to close for seven days beginning yesterday.

The move was based on the suggestion given by the state government to the Health Ministry following the rise in Covid-19 cases involving schools.

Through its Covid-19 community screening initiative involving a total cost of RM6 million, the Selangor administration has aimed to see 50,000 individuals screened throughout the year.
