Zakat fitrah rate in Selangor remains at RM7

SHAH ALAM, April 9 — The (compulsory) zakat fitrah (personal tithe) rate in the state remains at RM7 per person as with the previous year.

Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) chief executive officer Saipolyazan M Yusop said the rate is in accordance with the approval made by the Selangor State Fatwa Committee Meeting since 2018.

“The setting of the zakat fitrah rate of RM7 is based on the price of 2.6 kilogrammes of Super Tempatan Grade A rice which is commonly consumed by the community.

“However, we encourage those who are fortunate to pay zakat fitrah according to the price of rice they consume every day for themselves and their dependents,” he said yesterday.

He added that the rate of zakat fitrah for individuals who consume imported white rice, brown rice, glutinous rice, ponni herbs and fragrant rice is RM14.

While for individuals consuming basmati rice, Japanese rice and red rice the personal tithe rate is RM21.

“The zakat fitrah collection last year increased to RM31.1 million compared to RM26 million in 2019, despite the implementation of the movement control order (MCO),” he added.

Earlier, Saipolyazan had distributed zakat collection from Worldwide Holdings Berhad in Section 13 here, which was also attended by its chief executive officer Datin Paduka Norazlina Zakaria.

Also present was the Teraju Ekonomi Asnaf Sdn Bhd chairman Dato’ Ibrahim Md Yusof.
