SHAH ALAM, June 2 —The Selangor Xtiv Virtual 2021 e-sports competition which opened in March has received 94,966 entries so far, said state executive councillor for sports Mohd Khairuddin Othman.

He said that figure represents more than 20 per cent of its target of 450,000 entries from five events competed in the second edition of the competition.

The Selangor Xtiv Virtual E-Sport event offers online games such as PUBG, Mobile Legends Bang Bang, Call of Duty Mobile, Pro Evolution Soccer 2021 and FIFA Pro Club which recorded the highest participation with 90,528 entries.

“Other events such as the Selangor Xtiv Virtual Marathon recorded 3,009 participants and the Selangor Xtiv Virtual Chess with 1,038 entries while the balance is in the Selangor Xtiv Virtual Marathon and Selangor Xtiv Virtual Martial Art.

“This positive development shows that the Selangor government is on the right track to achieve its target after the first success last year,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Khairuddin also expects a sharp increase in participants registering this month following the implementation of the total lockdown under the movement control order 3.0 (MCO) and the school holidays.

“The state government calls on the public, especially the people of Selangor, to fill up their free time with beneficial activities, including this programme,” he said.

The Selangor Xtiv Virtual 2021 offers seven types of competitions from March to December with a total prize pool of RM411,680.

Two events, the Selangor Xtiv Virtual Ride and Selangor Xtiv Virtual Jump Rope Challenge are expected to begin in the middle of this month.

Last year, the programme received an unexpected response involving 250,631 entries and 18 million views on social media platforms.
