98 pct of adult population in Selangor received first dose of Covid-19 vaccine

SHAH ALAM, Aug 19 — Some 98 per cent of the adult population in Selangor have been administered with the first dose of Covid-19 vaccines under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) and the Selangor Vaccination Programme (Selvax).

Menteri Besar Dato’ Amirudin Shari said looking at the current progress, the state administration is confident that Selangor can shift into Phase Two of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) by September.

“Based on the figure we obtained from the vaccination centres (PPVs) across the state, the vaccination rate stood at 80 per cent last week.

“However, after a recent update through MySejahtera, the current percentage of the adult population who have received their first dose stands at 98 per cent,” said Amirudin during a virtual press conference broadcast live on Media Selangor Facebook today.

He said the administration of the vaccine doses in other locations outside of Selangor, such as in Kuala Lumpur via the AstraZeneca opt-in programme, had contributed to the upsurge in the number of Selangor people getting their vaccines.

“Therefore, we are optimistic that we can enter Phase Two at any time in September.

“Moreover, the number of hospital admissions for critical Covid-19 cases had reduced significantly at several hospitals such as Tunku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang and Sungai Buloh Hospital in Sungai Buloh,” he said.

Amirudin said he is also certain that the state would be able to hit a 60 per cent vaccination rate of fully inoculated adults by the end of August, as the current rate is at 56 per cent.

Meanwhile, Amirudin said the state government would not extend the walk-in vaccination programme in the state.

“Several PPVs will stop their operation by the end of August or early September. After that, we will try to identify individuals who have yet to be vaccinated via our mobile immunisation initiative or by arranging vaccination slots based on the localities.

“Perhaps the vaccination process will be carried out at our clinics or hospitals,” said Amirudin, adding that an additional 100,000 doses will be allocated for the mobile vaccination effort.
