Digitalisation the way forward for businesses — Berjaya CEO

By Alang Bendahara

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 20 — Businesses need to catch up fast with digitalisation or risk being left out of the rat race.

Berjaya Corporation Berhad group chief executive officer Jalil Rasheed said the post-Covid-19 pandemic recovery would benefit companies that focus on digitalisation.

“Having a strategy for digitalisation is important, where we are now and where we want to be in the future, within three to five years.

“Also, it is important to think about having the right people and the right culture for digitalisation.

“We need to educate people that change is constant, change is going to come very fast. For the last 40 to 50 years, we have never been used to change, but in the last 10 years, a lot of changes have occurred, and that is going to be the norm,” he said.

Jalil was speaking as a panellist in the session The 4th IR is Real at the Selangor Asean Business Conference (SABC) 2021 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre yesterday.

Meanwhile, speaking on SABC, he said the yearly programme was a good initiative by the Selangor government.

“It has been good, we had the last session, and it is quite interesting to speak to a wide range of panellists. My fellow panellists are from the agricultural, digital, aviation, and manufacturing sectors.

“It is quite interesting how different people have a different take on what digitalisation is. But there is a common understanding that culture, talent policy and governance is important. And where the government, in this case, Invest Selangor Berhad, can play a big role,” Jalil said when met after the panel discussion.

He added like most of the companies taking part in SABC and the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) 2021, Berjaya was more than happy to be a participant.

“We have always been supportive of the state government as we continue to do business across various business sectors such as environment, digital and retail. So we are happy to support the Selangor government initiative.”
