Selangor business summit connecting post-pandemic investors with regional players

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 19 — The Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) 2021 and Selangor Asean Business Conference (SABC) 2021 are opportunities for investors and businesses to network with the top players in the country as well as regionally.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said both events also provide the chance for those seeking to venture into new businesses during the post-pandemic era.

“At this pivotal point in history, as the world’s nations and businesses work towards economic recovery, we are all being presented with an opportunity to start over and reinvent.

“The SABC and SIBS are ideal platforms to build connections with business and economic key players, especially in the Asean region and beyond.

“It is my hope the networking opportunities will be realised as real business opportunities beyond the conference and summit,” he said in his opening speech at the conference held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, here today.

Amirudin also called upon members of the Asean community to work hand in hand in creating a more robust and resilient economic ecosystem.

“While the Asean region has seen huge economic improvements in recent years, albeit momentarily disrupted by the pandemic, we have yet to reach its full potential.

“I hope your time at the conference and summit this year will be fruitful, which will then contribute to the larger vision of creating a strong Asean economy,” he said.

Speaking on the SABC, Amirudin said the hybrid format of its panel sessions this year provides a much broader platform for invited industry thought leaders to share their insights into the future of business, industry and work.

He also lauded Invest Selangor Berhad and state executive councillor for industry and trade Dato’ Teng Chang Khim for successfully organising and hosting the SABC for the fifth year.

“Over the past few years, the SABC has brought key economic leaders from around the world including government delegations, high-profile industry players, trade associations, business chambers and international investors, on a common platform to discuss the latest thoughts and ideas about the way forward in vital economic integration, market access and opportunities in the Asean region.

“I believe that over the years, the SABC specifically, and SIBS more generally, have provided an excellent regional platform for important discussions about pressing issues to be held and heard. The insights shared by thought leaders speaking at past editions of SABC have provided tremendous value to the wider Asean business and investor community,” he said.

Amirudin said that this year, the conference will again see key business and economic leaders from around the region, including government delegations, high-profile industry players, trade associations, business chambers and international investors, gather to discuss the following trends in business and society.

With the theme ‘Selangor the Gateway to Asean’, SIBS 2021 takes place from November 18 to 21 in a hybrid format.

The state government-backed conference and exhibition brings together global brands and congregating industry players from around the world for the fifth time since its inception in 2016.

The physical event features about 500 booths, while its virtual form can be accessed via www.selangorbusinesshub.my and will showcase about 800 booths.
