DID urged to repair sluice gate, bunds in Kampung Lombong

SHAH ALAM, Jan 6 — The Selangor Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID) has been urged to repair the broken sluice gate and bunds in Kampung Lombong as soon as possible, which were destroyed by the recent flooding.

Sungai Kandis assemblyman Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni this can prevent the flood disaster from reoccurring.

“We ask the DID to strengthen the bunds’ structure as well as repair the sluice gate in Kampung Lombong immediately, as we are worried the current rainy season will be prolonged,” he said when met after the distribution of Bantuan Selangor Bangkit programme to flood victims in Dewan MPKK Kampung Lombong earlier today.

Zawawi, who is also the state executive councillor for Islamic affairs, proposed that flood warning sirens be installed in the affected localities.

“This would help the residents to be more prepared when a disaster happens,” he said.

The torrential rain from December 17 until December 19 resulted in double the rainfall compared to the previous high of 180 millimetres, causing severe flooding in several locations of Selangor.
