SHAH ALAM, Feb 21 — The Selangor Department of Environment (DOE) issued RM16,000 in compounds against two factories in Petaling Jaya and Sepang yesterday for failure to manage waste properly.
In a statement on Facebook yesterday, the agency said the action was taken after its enforcement officers conducted patrols and investigated complaints around the Gombak, Petaling Jaya, Johan Setia and Sepang industrial areas on February 19.
“The compounded premise is a beauty products factory that allowed its wastewater treatment plant to operate without supervision and did not label the scheduled waste containers.
“Another factory in Sepang had failed to manage scheduled waste properly,” it said.
On the same day, the Selangor DOE also investigated open burning activity in Bukit Kemuning and found traces of burnt rubber cables in the housing area.
It has issued warnings and field citations to the perpetrators.
The Selangor DOE also investigated another open burning case along Jalan Bukit Kemuning and discovered the garbage burning on open land.
“The Fire and Rescue Department was alerted and came to put out the fire. A follow-up investigation will be carried out after the land ownership details are acquired,” it said.
The public can report pollution to the Selangor DOE Selangor at its toll-free line 1-800-88-2727 or via e-complaint at [email protected].
Cases involving open burning can be reported to the Fire and Rescue Department at 999 or toll-free 1-800-88-994 and SMS 03-88880964.
