Five of Selangor’s districts to experience strong weather until evening, says MetMalaysia

SHAH ALAM, March 3 — Over half of the state is predicted to experience heavy rains, thunderstorms and strong winds, as the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issues its warning for today.

The districts of Hulu Selangor, Gombak, Petaling, Hulu Langat and Sepang are expected to undergo strong weather until this evening.

“Thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds are also forecasted in other states and areas including the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory, the Putrajaya Federal Territory, Melaka, and Johor,” it said in a statement at 2.55pm.

Other states and areas include Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim) and Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Raub, Bentong, Pekan and Rompin)

“Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Seremban, Port Dickson, Kuala Pilah, Rembau and Tampin) will also be affected. In East Malaysia, Sarawak’s areas include Kuching, Serian, Samarahan (Samarahan), Sri Aman (Lubok Antu), Sibu, Mukah (Daro, Matu, Dalat and Mukah), Kapit (Song, Kapit and Belaga), Bintulu (Tatau), Miri (Miri and Marudi) and Limbang.

“Sabah’s areas affected by strong weather include (Sipitang, Tenom and Beaufort) and Pantai Barat. All areas will experience thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds until 7pm this evening,” MetMalaysia said.

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur in excess of an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
