MetMalaysia: Three Selangor districts undergo strong weather until this evening

SHAH ALAM, March 3 — The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has forecasted thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds will affect the districts of Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Hulu Langat this afternoon.

In a statement published at 2.10pm, it said the strong weather will last until 6pm today. Several other locations in the Peninsular are also affected.

“For Perak, the areas affected include Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang, and Muallim. Other states include (the whole of) Melaka, Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron and Bentong) the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory, Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Seremban, Port Dickson and Rembau) as well as Johor (Tangkak, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Pontian, Kulai and Johor Bahru)” MetMalaysia said.

In East Malaysia parts of Sarawak will be affected, including Sri Aman, Betong (Betong), Sarikei (Pakan and Julau), Sibu (Kanowit and Selangau), Kapit (Kapit), Bintulu (Tatau and Sebauh) and Limbang.

“For Sabah, the areas affected by strong weather include Pedalaman (Kuala Penyu, Beaufort and Tambunan), Pantai Barat, Tawau (Lahad Datu), Sandakan (Telupid, Kinabatangan, Beluran and Sandakan)

“The Labuan Federal Territory will also be affected. All locations in East Malaysia will experience strong weather until 7pm this evening,” it said.

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur in excess of an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
