Selangor aims to empower youth mobilisers, create quality leaders

SHAH ALAM, March 22 — The state government wishes to empower youth organisation Selangor Local Youth Movement (PeBS) to higher levels in the future.

State executive councillor for young generation development Mohd Khairuddin Othman said the effort is to produce qualified leaders, in addition to becoming society agents.

“We are always open and welcome any proposals to improve PeBS’ existing system,” he said during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly session yesterday.

Mohd Khairuddin was responding to a query from Sungai Pelek state assemblyman Ronnie Liu, who recommended that PeBS be created as a special committee on the state seat level to manage youth affairs.

The councillor added this was why Penggerak Belia Tempatan (PeBT) was rebranded as PeBS and situated in 56 state seats last year.

“Up to five youth representatives are appointed in each seat to form a PeBS committee that functions as an agent to drive youth activity on the grassroots level,” he said.

Earlier on Mohd Khairuddin said up to 205 PeBS programmes were successfully carried out throughout 2021.

The Kinrara state seat recorded the highest number of programmes at 15, followed by Balakong with 13 and Bandar Utama with 11.
