SHAH ALAM, March 21 — The state government has established the Green Technology Action Plan to handle the issue of climate change and reduce carbon emissions, said state executive councillor for climate change Hee Loy Sian.

He said among the initiatives that will be implemented through the plan include encouraging wider society to use public transportation such as the Smart Selangor Bus.

“The Selangor government will also implement green townships by using the Low Carbon Cities Framework (LCCF) as the basis of all its policy planning, on the local authority level.

“We will also support the initiative of local authorities, state departments and agencies to step up with programmes to reduce climate change impact in the long-term. Among these are the 100 Million Tree-Planting campaign and the Earth Hour campaign,” Hee said during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting earlier today.

The councillor was responding to Bandar Utama state assemblyman Jamaliah Jamaluddin’s query on what studies, policies or initiatives have been undertaken concerning climate change.

He added the state government will also install solar panels on the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Building and nine other buildings in each District and Land Office, to save on electricity.

“The Selangor government will also approve the development of the Selangor Solar Farm (LSS) at Ladang Bukit Kerayong in Klang, under the company Sharp Ventures Sdn Bhd.

“On January, a Climate Change Special Committee consisting of experts and academicians was formed. They are responsible for studying the climate change issue and global warming in the state, so as to develop a pattern of balanced development,” Hee said.
