Smart road management system to be launched tomorrow

SHAH ALAM, March 15 — The Selangor Smart Road Asset Management System (Srams) will be launched tomorrow to help expedite repair works of damaged roads.

The app, developed by the Selgem Sdn Bhd (Selgem), is aligned with the state government’s initiative to overcome road-related problems which is one of the main issues raised during the 2022 Selangor Budget.

The system utilises smart cameras in vehicle dashboards, 360-degree cameras, drones and Artificial Intelligence (AI) based observation technology.

“Results from the observation and data analysis are integrated with the web which is then transmitted directly to the Selgem control centre, a key element in Srams,” the company said in a statement.

Selgem added the app can be used by various agencies which creates operation uniformity for road management in Selangor.

The launch of the system by Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd’s subsidiary is scheduled to be officiated by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari at the Selangor State Secretariat Building on March 16.

Previously, state executive councillor for Infrastructure Izham Hashim said the use of drones and sensors are among the methods to detect road damage in Selangor and to ensure maintenance works meet the set standards.

He said the system enables road damage information including potholes, maintenance dates and expiry dates to be identified for further actions, with maintenance cost reaching up to RM1 billion.

The use of the smart road asset systems equipped with geographic information software to address road-related issues was also discussed during the 2022 Selangor Budget.
