State reps should participate in engagement session for pocket development — Exco

By Nasuha Badrul Huzaini

SHAH ALAM, March 16 — The Selangor government has instructed state representatives to take part in engagement sessions for development projects that will be carried out in their respective constituencies.

State executive councillor for local government Ng Sze Han said the engagement sessions are crucial as development information will be shared during the programme.

“If we refer to the PLANMalaysia manual, state representatives’ response and feedback are not required because only professional and technical bodies can give their insights and analysis on the development.

“However, I agree that as someone who represents people in the constituency, state representatives should be aware of what is going on in their seat and what kind of development will take place.

“Hence, it is important for state representatives to participate in the engagement sessions to address raised issues,” he said during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting earlier today.

Ng was responding to a supplementary query from Dengkil state assemblyman Adhif Syan Abdullah on pocket development which tend to cause flash floods.

He said based on records in 2020 and 2021, the Sepang Municipal Council approved a total of 72 pocket developments and no development on ‘Lot Lidi’ was approved.

Lot Lidi is a term wherein a person who owns land unofficially subdivides it to willing buyers, but who do not receive a grant or a title.

“Each development plan application must comply with the Selangor State Planning Standard Guidelines provided by the PLANMalaysia Selangor, and other relevant guidelines.

“Apart from that, the application must also comply with the conditions and rules set by the relevant technical agency,” Ng added.
