SUBANG JAYA, April 9 — The Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MBSJ) initiative to introduce the usage of self-owned containers during Ramadan bazaars is proof the state administration does not only prioritise smart technology.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the move via the plastic bag-free campaign is the start towards removing its usage.

“Getting rid of plastic bags (usage) is a part of the state government’s efforts to guarantee environmental sustainability. Beginning with bazaars not providing plastic bags will also guarantee a clean water supply.

“The implementation will require a long time but if it continues it will help to reduce plastic bag usage and as such its disposal in drains and rivers,” he said.

Amirudin was speaking after the officiation of the Selangor Platform (Plats) 3.0 at the Bandar Kinrara 5 Ramadan bazaar in Puchong yesterday evening.

The Menteri Besar also spent time interacting with traders and bazaar goers, accompanied by state executive councillor for entrepreneur development Rodziah Ismail, state executive councillor for local government Ng Sze Han, and state executive councillor for caring government V. Ganabatirau.

Via the Plastic-Free Campaign, MBSJ is offering 2,000 vouchers worth RM5 each to visitors who bring their own containers every Wednesday.
