Strong weather alert for three Selangor areas — MetMalaysia

SHAH ALAM, April 20 — The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds for three Selangor districts until 4pm.

In a statement issued at 12.15pm, it said the districts include Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Hulu Langat.

MetMalaysia also forecasted similar weather patterns for Penang, Kedah (Langkawi, Kulim and Bandar Baharu), Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim), Kelantan (Jeli, Tanah Merah and Kuala Krai) and Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin).

Other states and territories include Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Seremban and Kuala Pilah), Johor (Mersing and Kota Tinggi) and Sabah: Pedalaman (Sipitang, Tenom, Kuala Penyu and Beaufort), Pantai Barat (Papar, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Kota Belud), Tawau (Tawau, Kunak and Lahad Datu), Sandakan and Kudat (Kota Marudu and Kudat).

The agency issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
